So, about that hiatus…
Since August of 2015, I’ve been hiatus while dealing with some medical issues and an increased job workload. My ability to contribute to Open Source and do Minecraft modding has been minimal.
I don’t know exactly when I’ll be able to actively work on modding again. The constant grind of needing to update for the latest Minecraft version that breaks a bunch of stuff is exhausting. Because of the level of drama in the modding community, I’ve almost completely withdrawn from…well…everything.
I’m working a second job to help pay off some debts, and hopefully build some cool stuff. The extra cash flow has been helping a lot, but it’s also sapping my energy and ability to be creative and program cool new stuff.
The state of Minechem, AlchemyPlusPlus, and Werkbench is nowhere near what I want it to be, but I just don’t have the energy or the time to do anything about it right now. The three factors of the endless update treadmill making real progress difficult, ongoing community drama, and the uncertain future of modding (with Microsoft starting the push towards non-java Minecraft) also contribute to the general level of difficulty in getting back in the game.
As for how long the hiatus will last…your guess is as good as mine. I’m going to be less busy once May or June rolls around, but I don’t know if that will translate into having more time to do modding.
I’m playing with the idea of making my own game. It’s in the very early stages, and without AfterLifeLochie‘s help would likely die a death born of neglect and lack of motivation, but it’s something I’ve thought about a lot, as the Minecraft modding environment gets more difficult to keep up with.
Outside of modding, I’m still programming, but it’s less object oriented project stuff and more Linux shell scripting, configuration, etc, lots of sysadmin type stuff and not a lot of in depth programming. I enjoy it a lot, but I miss the feeling of losing myself in the code for hours at a time.
Eh, maybe Soon™. I’ve got to get back to work, and after that I’ve got my evening job too.
